"It's necessary to dip into the deep blue" inspired the film’s reflection on a life crisis as part of our human condition, allowing this to influence our creative process. Movement is infused by animal traits, the raw material of the struggle transmuted into a story.

Utilizando el poema Al Deek (El gallo) de Nizar Qabbani se crea una historia a través de la danza Baladi (belly dance), la película retrata el viaje del dictador que llega al poder y su inevitable caída. Al utilizar esta forma de danza que ha sido estereotipada como cuerpo femenino, el objetivo es subvertir los roles de género y resaltar una obsesión cultural y social con el poder en sus diversas materializaciones de dictadura, reproduciéndola una y otra vez.

In our neighborhood, lives a rooster. In our neighborhood, lives a sadist slaying rooster!" Based on Nizar Qabbani’s poem Al Deek (The Rooster), this dance film experiments with the Baladi form to portray the journey of a dictator’s rise to power and their inevitable downfall.

Muchas personas en el Sur Global viven en un estado de sed perpetua. Las luchas violentas provocadas por la escasez de agua en las zonas urbanas de la India se están volviendo algo común. Esta película, basada en el arte del movimiento patrimonial indio Malkhamb, señala la naturaleza primitiva y contemporánea de la inminente crisis global y la necesidad de una respuesta urgente y unida en todo el mundo.

A State of Thirst ponders on the human body and its most basic need and offers minimalist vision of a water-scarce future.The wars of this century will be water wars. Many in the Global South are living in a state of perpetual thirst. Violent fights sparked by water shortages in urban India are becoming commonplace. This film, based on the Indian heritage movement art Malkhamb, signals the very primal and contemporary nature of the impending global crisis and the need for a urgent, united response required from across the world.

For four days in 2022, Zaccho Dance Theatre transformed the towering ceilings, stained glass windows and cavernous chambers of San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral into a multifaceted immersive experience with aerial dancers ascending a 100-ft ladder and soaring on a 70-foot swinging pendulum.

Love, A State of Grace transports viewers inside the experience through striking close ups, cosmic wide shots and a cinematic moving camera that soars with the dancers to capture the vulnerability, courage and meditative shared experience of choreographer Joanna Haigood’s breathtaking exploration of love and our common humanity.
